Firefox update on encryption status 10/06/2011
Here's the link that explains the new "Site Identity button" on Firefox for those of you who always check to see if a website is encrypted before you purchase anything or login to your bank, etc.. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Site%20Identity%20Button Add Comment Never say you weren't warned. 05/01/2010
Everyone should back up their files. How often is up to the individual and what you need. I'm going to mention a site I've mentioned before..... but www.myotherdrive.com is one you really shouldn't do without. Manual or automatic backups are a breeze and unlike some of the other storage sites out there, this one lets you choose how and what you want to backup. I've seen some services where if you delete it off your computer it automatically deletes the file off the server. What good is that if you make a mistake and delete the wrong file only to realize it later??? The whole point in backing up is to prevent situations like that. Then there's another one that has you backing up files based on where they come from so you are constantly having to keep up with multiple files if you have several computers like I do. What a pain. This is so much easier there's no reason not to back it up- SO BACK IT UP ALREADY!!!! File transfer tool 03/10/2010
If you have multiple computers and they're not networked but you're constantly transferring files, try this little gadget. Another useful site to try 01/04/2010
Try out www.readitlaterlist.com. It's great for those of you who constantly run across something interesting on the web but don't have time to read it right away. There's a plugin for Firefox and iPhone too. Really handy media converter 12/07/2009

VideoLan is a great free open source media player that can handle most video and audio files. Click here if you want to visit the website and read details, or here is the direct download link for the actual file: http://www.videolan.org/mirror-geo.php?file=vlc/1.0.2/win32/vlc-1.0.2-win32.exe Email address vs web address 09/02/2009
Believe it or not, most non-computer people get these two things confused. An email address always has a word before an @ symbol and a word after along with the .com, .org, .net, etc. For example, my email address is alicia@myofficemanager.com. A webpage or website uses http:// and/or http://www. along with the usual .com, .org, .net, etc. This website is http://www.myofficemanager.com. This brings me to an interesting point. How many of you ever check the website to a corresponding email address? I always do. Post a question 09/02/2009

If you own a webcam, you should really try Skype. For that matter, you don't even need one as you can still send instant messages. Best of all, it's free and works anywhere! My Other Drive 07/31/2009
I know I've mentioned it before, but www.myotherdrive.com is such a useful site that I had to mention it again. LOL I use this site weekly to keep my files backed up online and then to transfer files from one computer to another. They offer a free 2gb plan and then a few other higher storage plans (I use the 100gb). It's really inexpensive when you consider some of the alternatives out there. They also offer automated backup which is really great. I set up certain folders to be uploaded on certain days and times and just forget about it. Not too long ago my computer crashed and I had to format and reload. It was so easy to just click on my online folder at www.myotherdrive.com and download my files. I saved 10 years worth of photo's!!! You just can't put a price on that. |
